Hi there.
My name is Mike Smith aka MAXOMENON. I'm currently a student at Loyola University, Chicago, where I am studying for my Bachelor's in Mathematics and Computer Science and my Master's in Mathematics. Other than being an overeducated idiot, I'm also an eclectic Wiccan, a liberal Democrat and a wannabe author and musician.
I was born in Chicago in 1973 to a political family and other than three years at Purdue University I have lived in Chicago my entire life.
I've studied Wicca for about five years, but really my core beliefs have been Pagan my whole life. I see the gods and goddesses as different facets of the Divine and in my opinion the only way people come to experience the Divine is thorugh personal contact - whether you're a fundamentalist Christian or an nth-generation devotee of the Craft.
I guess I could sum up my theology in four words: Find Your Own Truth.
That's not precisely what I believe but it comes close. Like many modern Pagans I was raised Catholic and for various reasons decided to leave the Church at an early age. Without getting into details, suffice to say that Catholicism just didn't strike the right chord with me. So here I am, a pagan for about eight years and a dedicated Wiccan for about three.
I've made a few friends on #Wicca and I've found it to be a great place to exchange ideas as well as to just socialize. It's also a good place for sincere and interested people to get basic information on the Craft, including pointers for a couple of books. It is NOT a place to get a love potion, tarot reading, hex on your neighbor, &c, so be warned. As with any legitimate religion we have no easy answers to offer.
If I had to say I'm known for anything on #Wicca, it's my nick changes and sometimes abrasive style. I've ticked off a few people on channel along with making a few friends. Such Is Life. Your Milage May Vary. In the end it all balances out.
Anyhow, feel free to email me or to talk with me on IRC if you have any questions, comments or rude remarks. Questions will be answered as best as I can, comments will be appreciated, rude remarks will be deleted.
